It should be obvious I’m not one to
refrain from criticizing Donald Trump. With so many aspects that make him unfit
for public office, from his business dealings and personal character to policy
stances, there’s more than enough to choose from.
But Trump should also be thanked by
those conservatives who still oppose him. From the day he announced his
candidacy, he has exposed the pretenders in our midst, those who call
themselves conservatives who yet shape their definition of that term to allow in
the Golden Calf with Orange Hair, or those who abandon their principles
outright and demand fealty to the will of the angry plurality the moment Trump
has sealed the nomination. By his presence he has separated the true believers
from the opportunists, and those dedicated to conservative values from those
merely looking for their own Obama to put on a pedestal before all else. As Ben
Howe wrote at RedState, we now know who our true allies are.
