Today we celebrate the sacrifice of
those Americans who have given their lives to protect their country and their
fellow citizens. For more than two centuries, Americans have been dying in
service to the ideals of liberty and freedom, the founding ideals of this
country. The enemy of the moment may change, from British invaders to the
armies of Nazi Germany and imperial Japan, to the modern-day fight against
Islamic terrorist groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda, but the reason for fighting
has never changed.
Today is the unofficial start of the
summer season. We should enjoy it, but also take a moment to remember those who
died so that we could enjoy our cookouts and days at the beach. By living our
lives to the fullest, we celebrate those who sacrificed their own lives for
their fellow Americans.
Happy Memorial Day.
